Raccoons

I know a guy that is having major problems with coons. As a matter of fact, he forkin' lost 3 of his 5 chickens to the bastages two nights ago when they dug under a 4"x4" and a 4"x6" post to get in the coop. That now brings the total up to 4 chickens and one duck.

Last night he did the "koolaid mix" using golden malrin fly bait using the recipe he was given of 2 tablespoons of the bait and a can of coke. This morning it was gone but no coons on the ground.

For reading/informational purposes only, does he need to use more than 2 tablespoons in the mix? He has declared all out war. No electric fences will be bought at this time.

I know you've recommended the electric netting before Scout 1, but at this time they will just be dead.

PM's accepted if no one has any pertinent info to post on this thread...

Re: Raccoons

The guy just found one dead about 30 yards from the koolaid. He told me he's thinking the ratio should be increased.

Re: Raccoons

That guy needs to know that the electronet won't reduce his coon numbers, but it WILL prevent the bastages from reducing his poultry numbers. Just sayin. Six years in coon coyote fox and MDC Mt. Lion country and we had 0 losses from these characters INSIDE the net.

PS, you'll never get the upper hand on coon numbers out your way, you realize that, right? So the fun and the game will never really end LMAO

Re: Raccoons

I hope your friend stacks up the bodies soon.

Not to hijack the thread, but please tell me more about this net.

My run is old/rusty woven wire with some chicken wire on it, and I just got some welded wire. How do you make it a zapper, and also keep your chickens from getting zapped?

Thirty yards is a long way after that stuff. A buddy of mine used it one year had em laying around within feet. Whole families

Re: Raccoons

I know Swampy. That's why he's gonna increase the dosage tonight. Guys that have used it before said they've found the coons dead with their head actually in the pan.

Scout - The fencing will be coming in the near future.

Re: Raccoons

Would a fox drink the recipe?

I'm guessing you have to take it up before letting the chickens out.

Re: Raccoons

Premiere One, Kurt. You just pull back one end of the netting and the birds will go in and out as they wish. Close it up when evening comes.

Burr... you'll be happy you invested in it, seriously. Get the solar charger and you'll be golden.

One last night never made it off the pan.

Another one was seen in the Wu/Scout camera I had set up. In addition, the first two pics of the night were of a very healthy looking fox...

Well, yeah. But I (and Redleg apparently) got the reference, so what does that say about us?

And, Samantha Fox was hot!

Re: Raccoons

this trap seems to work

Building a better raccoon trapMay 23, 20128:59 p.m.Dealing with "HomeofToto"’ exploding raccoon population is a problem many landowners, land managers, hunters, gardeners, birders are facing.
Well, a "HomeofToto" company has come up with a way to help trap these critters that often travel in small packs. Pretty ingenius, really.

My thanks to Roy Wenzl for passing this along.
